Gearwrench equips electricians with torque screwdriver sets, and various assembly tasks have great potential. Whether you are assembling carbon fiber parts or installing panels, you can use one tool to achieve a full range of torque requirements of 10 to 50 inch pounds, avoiding the trouble caused by insufficient torque and excessive torque.

Overtightening the fastener is bad. At best, you may damage the fasteners. In the worst case, you need to replace a part that is not part of your cost equation. For smaller fasteners, Gearwrench aims to eliminate guesswork with their torque screwdriver kit.

One thing we like about the Gearwrench design is the single-digit torque setting of 10 – 50 in-lbs. To set the torque you are looking for, pull down the release and twist the handle to the left or right.

The shaft has a "tree" of measurements, which is measured every 10 inch pounds, and there is a ring with measurements from 0 to 9 underneath. Suppose you want to shoot with 25 inch pounds of torque. Turn the handle until it reaches the bottom of the 20 branch, and then continue to rotate clockwise until you see the 5 on the ring.

It's really simple.

The accuracy is ±6%. Compared to some of the tools we use, this sounds a lot. Even at the top, 6% will put you in the 47-53 inch-pound range, which is not bad. At the small end of the range, it is 9.4 – 10.6 inch-pounds.

Except for the in-lbs of Nm parts, the only thing we really want to see is the Newton meter scale. Depending on how the shaft and ring measurement works, this is not practical, so we must now perform mathematical calculations or lookups.

The installation position is very simple. The chuck of the torque screwdriver adopts a one-handed entry design. Simply push the drill bit into place and the chuck secures it. To release the drill bit, push the chuck back.

The good news is that it is a 1/4-inch hex receiver, so if something is not in the kit, you can use any 1/4-inch hex bit you have on hand. We found some things from other brands that we could take out with some effort, but they were good enough to use.

Gearwrench sells their torque screwdriver as part of a 20-piece set (89620) for $234.99. In addition to the screwdriver and housing, here are some accessories:

If you only want a screwdriver (89624), it is priced at $114.99.
