Diablo's carbide blades are suitable for almost all jobs. When they launch new products, they are usually replaced on a rolling basis to improve the already high-performance blades and make them better. However, this is not the case with the dark steel demon Amped. This carbide reciprocating saw blade takes thick metal cutting to a new level.

Diablo started with a 1-inch high blank to create a very strong base for the blade. From there, they use an 8 TPI tooth configuration and use their own secret cemented carbide mixture for tipping. The most important is Diablo's Perma-Shield coating, which reduces heat and friction, and the Black ICE coating on the edge of the tooth, which helps keep it smooth, cool and improves chip evacuation.

The result is a reciprocating saw blade that can cut metals up to 9/16 inches thick, including stainless steel and cast iron.

Now this all sounds great, but has it been cut? Oh yes, it's cut.

We first performed some test cuts on the 3/8-inch angle iron, and Diablo's Steel Demon Amped just melted on it. Using Skisaw's 15 amp Buzzkill reciprocating saw, our cutting is fast and stable.

After we warmed up a little bit, we went straight to the toughest cut we had to make on a regular basis-cast iron. This is not the beautiful new cast iron pipe we see in a controlled environment. This is a real 4-inch cast iron demonstration installed decades ago, and our Diablo blades cut faster than diamond grit blades.

Before finishing the blade, we finished three cuts. It is possible that it made good progress in the fourth cut, but the speed has slowed down significantly from where it started.

Then we conducted a lifetime test. This is an endurance test to see how many cuts the blade can make in #5 rebar before it becomes invalid. During this process, we will also check the cutting speed.

The new Diablo Demo Demon blade made 40 cuts before closing. From another perspective, the previous steel magic thick metal blade made 33 cuts in the same test. This means that the life span has been extended by more than 20%!

The speed is also quite amazing. Out of the door, the average time of the first 5 edits was only 3.3 seconds. The best way to cut metal with a reciprocating saw is to use a slower speed-but the reality is that most people we see in the field cut at full speed anyway. This is how we design tests.

One thing that impressed us was the toughness of the Diablo Iron Demon Amped. The new design provided us with a longer life. If you are the kind of Pro that reduces the metal cutting speed, you can expect a longer service life.

Another thing worth pointing out is what happens when the blade life ends. We usually see teeth beginning to chip and break, but Diablo's new blade is not. They actually fell off completely. This is not a design flaw or failure-it's just a difference in Diablo's metallurgical combination.

The Diablo Steel Demon Amped hard alloy thick metal reciprocating saw blade is definitely a major upgrade, the price of 6 inches is about 15 dollars, and the price of 9 inches is about 20 dollars. Compared with the current Steel Demon thick metal blades ($10 and $15 respectively), the price has increased by one step.

If you are used to buying bimetal blades, these blades are much more expensive. However, what really sells them is the cost per cut. Before you pass a Steel Demon Amped, you will experience a lot of bimetal blades. The bimetal blade certainly has its place-it just can't cut thick metal.

Using a reciprocating saw to cut thick metal used to mean completing the work slowly and stacking a pile of blades under you. Diablo's latest generation of Steel Demon Amped carbide thick metal blades not only makes work easier, but its performance is also much better than their previous thick metal blades.

I find that using oil helps a lot when using the blade, just like drilling a hole. If I'm doing a wireless connection, I might want to use water. However, cutting oil seems to be effective, and I have also used 5w-20.
