The 49ers will need to cut their 80-man roster down to 53 players by 1:00pm Pacific Time on Tuesday. Their cuts began Sunday ahead of their practice.

A handful of other cuts could happen before the official announcement Tuesday.

Keep track of all the cuts here:

49ers are releasing veteran S Tashaun Gipson, per source.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 30, 2022

Gipson was a camp body who put together some good tape in the preseason finale. He was only with the team a week though which made it hard to land a roster spot.

General manager John Lynch indicated in a conference all that the club would roll with QB Brock Purdy as the third QB now that Jimmy Garoppolo is staying, which spelled the end for Sudfeld’s time in San Francisco.

49ers also cutting WR Malik Turner.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 30, 2022

This is a surprise. The club was expected to keep Turner as the sixth WR, but they elected to go with five wide receivers instead. He was a special teams standout in the preseason.

49ers also are releasing veteran defensive back Dontae Johnson.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 30, 2022

Johnson’s release is a bit of a surprise. He worked a lot at safety this offseason and was one of the favorites to snag the starting free safety job with Jimmie Ward out. If he doesn’t sign somewhere the 49ers could bring him back once Ward goes on IR.

#49ers releasing OT Justin Skule, per source. Team's former sixth-round pick started 12 games over last two seasons.

— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) August 30, 2022

This isn’t a surprise. Skule was decent in fill-in work as a rookie in 2019, but he really struggled in the preseason while returning from a torn ACL he suffered last June.

The 49ers are releasing DE Kemoko Turay, per source. Turay had 5.5 sacks for the Colts last year, five-year veteran.

— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) August 30, 2022

This is a surprise. Turay had a good preseason performance, but it wasn’t enough to crack a deep defensive end rotation for the 49ers.

#49ers have waived undrafted rookie CB Qwuantrezz Knight, per source.

— Eric Branch (@Eric_Branch) August 30, 2022

Knight’s versatility gave him some late life in the hunt for a roster spot. Now the UDFA from UCLA is likely a practice squad candidate.

Per source, #49ers plan to waive rookie LB Segun Olubi. He and Marcelino McCrary-Ball stood out this offseason. Olubi definitely a practice-squad candidate.

— Matt Barrows (@mattbarrows) August 30, 2022

The UDFA put together a nice preseason. San Francisco could aim to bring him back as they look to load up at LB with a couple starters hitting free agency next offseason.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports reported Gutierrez was among the offensive linemen let go ahead of the deadline. He made his debut against the Vikings in a cool moment after joining the club last year via the international pathway program.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports reported the undrafted rookie receiver was among those let go. He’s a practice squad candidate after putting together a nice preseason.

#49ers are waiving RB JaMycal Hasty, per source. Hasty last year served as the team's primary third-down back.

— Matt Barrows (@mattbarrows) August 30, 2022

This is a minor surprise. Hasty saw a ton of action last season as the third-down back and played fairly well in the preseason.

49ers releasing OL Jason Poe, per source.

— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) August 30, 2022

Poe came on strong late in the preseason and wound up running with the first team late in camp. It’s a bit of a surprise he was let go, but he’ll likely return to the practice squad.

49ers are releasing cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields, a sixth-round pick in April's draft, per source.

— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) August 30, 2022

Castro-Fields is a raw prospect that the 49ers selected in the sixth round of this year’s draft. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him back on the practice squad. He’s the first of San Francisco’s cuts to come from their 2022 draft class.

The #49ers released veteran WR Willie Snead, per source.

— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) August 30, 2022

Pelissero also reported the 49ers will aim to bring Snead back on the practice squad. He was a late addition to the offseason roster.

The #49ers released WR Marcus Johnson, per source. Should have interest elsewhere.

— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) August 30, 2022

Johnson can return kicks, but he was in a battle with Malik Turner for the final WR spot if the team winds up keeping six players at that position.

49ers cut veteran offensive tackle Jordan Mills, per a league source

— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) August 30, 2022

Mills is a veteran who could make his way back to the practice squad as an experienced option, but his preseason performance wasn’t particularly impressive.

West never made a real run at the starting center spot and wound up playing elsewhere on the interior of the OL after joining the 49ers as an undrafted rookie from Arizona State. He’s a practice squad candidate.

A day after cutting Ka'dar Hollman, the 49ers have done the same with another cornerback, Ken Crawley, per source.

— Matt Barrows (@mattbarrows) August 29, 2022

The 49ers added Crawley during camp to fill in while they dealt with injuries at cornerback. It’s not a surprise to see the veteran let go early.

Hollman had a nice preseason debut against the Packers, but was always a long shot to make the club once fifth-round rookie Samuel Womack emerged as a starter at nickel corner.
