The Milwaukee 14-inch steel-head diamond cutting blade is indeed an excellent alternative to traditional grinding discs, although cost may be a concern for some people.

We have a secret project underway at PTR Labs, also known as "The Shop", everyone else knows it. This is indeed a secret project, so no, I won't give any hints. I have told you too much. Part of this project is what I do best: metal cutting. As part of our project, we are testing several top metal cutting saws, abrasive cutting machines and metal cutting blades. Abrasives are so in 2010. On the other hand, the Milwaukee 14-inch steel-head diamond cutting blade appeared on the scene as a substitute-a very effective substitute.

Milwaukee claims that their Steelhead blades last 75 times longer than standard bonded abrasives. I have done a lot of cuts with fixed abrasives, and I don't want to spend a lot of time on actual testing, but Milwaukee did let us know some internal test results. Using No. 25 steel studs, they cut 6 to 13 places from standard abrasive.

Milwaukee 14-inch Steelhead diamond cutting blade?

Of course, we must note that this is a controlled test conducted by the Milwaukee people, but every time we repeat the test they completed internally, our results are very close. If you try it at home, there may be some subtle differences, but it is likely to be within the statistical confidence level.

In order to obtain this durability from the blade, there must be something very different from traditional abrasives. Milwaukee uses high-grade synthetic diamond abrasive grains along the cutting edge. These diamond abrasive grains are not bonded to the metal mixture in the way the masonry blade is designed, but are exposed.

Thanks to the diamond abrasive design, you will not lose the diameter of the blade like using abrasives. As the blade wears (like all ends), the diamond will be peeled, rather than the steel blade itself shrinking.

One of the biggest safety risks of grinding blades is that they can break or break during use. At speeds of 4000 RPM or higher, this will not end well. Milwaukee's steel core blades will not suffer from the adverse effects of failure due to swing and deflection.

So the design is obviously different from the abrasive, which has a great impact on the life, but what is its cutting effect? Before using a blade to cut the steel pipe on the frame of our secret project, we really need to know what cutting characteristics we are looking at. We installed the blade on the Ridgid 14-inch abrasive cutting machine and used it for some of the angle irons we placed.

The grinding disc attached to the saw cuts as expected, throwing out a lot of heart-beating sparks, and spending a sweet time. This is a slow and smooth process, but we are grinding metal, what should you expect?

We rotated the saw with the Milwaukee 14-inch steel-head diamond cutting blade turned on and noticed a significant difference in cutting speed. Once the blade entered the iron for the first time, it seemed to mock the iron trying to stop it by friction, because the diamond opened up a path. It is not a hot knife to cut butter quickly, but it is much faster than stock options.

This is not a blade that eliminates sparks. In fact, we noticed an increase. Compared with reasonably controlled grinding discs, they can also escape more from the side. This may be because the blade removes material at a faster rate. For whatever reason, please make sure to wear all appropriate safety gear when using this (or any other) blade.

We did find a small amount of burrs and a small amount of slag on the cut. However, it has a significant improvement over ordinary abrasive blades.

The Milwaukee 14-inch Steelhead diamond cutting blade is indeed an excellent alternative to traditional grinding discs. Based on our limited testing and internal testing in Milwaukee, you should be able to get a very long service life from the blade. Our performance test will definitely result in faster cutting speeds than abrasive blades. We see that the increase in sparks may be due to the increase in material removal rate, but it requires the use of protective equipment.

For most professionals seeking to replace blades, cost will be the main stumbling block. The online price of Milwaukee premium blades is approximately $160. Bringing abrasive cutting discs home for 10 to 20 dollars can be unacceptable. Still, even at the low end, 75 grinding discs will cost $750—$160 more than performing the same number of cuts. Milwaukee's Steelhead Blade is definitely a professional-grade accessory, which is excellent value for money compared to traditional abrasive discs.

"This is really a secret project, "Wow, you are behind the times." Pearl Abrasive has been selling such an excellent blade for many years! It looks like Milwaukee just copied the PEARL blade.

Does this blade allow the cutting saw to reliably mitre the steel pipe? The deflection of the conventional cutting saw disc makes this impossible.
